Our next event for Music Olympics was the javelin throw. I figured Mrs. Reagan would frown on real javelins being tossed about the music room, so we had to adapt! ha ha ha ha....
Our event used paper javelins. This was a student's dream come true because they were actually allowed to make paper airplanes AND to throw them in the room! We took about 10 minutes folding the perfect paper airplane and testing it out. Then it was game time. Each team took their paper airplane and launched it from behind a starting line. There were three lines marked on the carpet with notes next to each line. Each note was worth a different beat value and students had to remember what these values were in order to see what their scores were. There was also a waste basket at the far end. If the "javelin" went into the waste basket, it was a bonus 10 points! We actually had 2 students- both 1st graders- make it in!! Musical trivia questions also gave each team a chance to double or triple their scores! As you can see on their faces, we had a lot of fun!
