Fourth graders were excited to have a second visit from West Shore Symphony trombonist, Dan Spencer. Mr. Spencer came last month to introduce the students to the orchestra, show his trombone and many mutes, and get the kids excited for their upcoming LINK UP concert. This time, he worked mostly with their recorders. For the past few weeks, fourth graders have been busy learning notes and how to play the recorder. Their final goal is a song called "Simple Melody" that they will sing and play on their recorders along with the West Shore Symphony during the concert! Mr. Spencer did a great job reinforcing key concepts, going over tricky parts in the music, and making them better recorder players.
Students also had a chance to ask questions about the orchestra... here are some of the things young inquiring minds wanted to know...
What does a conductor do?
How does the conductor know when to start or stop?
Where did conductors come from?
How/When did conductors start?
What is the best way to hold the recorder?
Can a conductor tell just one person to play?
Have you ever messed up?
Is there more than one conductor in the orchestra?
If you know a fourth grader, ask him any of these questions... they now should know the answers! Thank you Mr. Spencer!!!!
