Tempo Clapping Games

Second graders have been working on learning about tempo (the speed of a song).   We have been experiencing lots of different music that has tempos that get slower and faster.  We have played instruments and moved to many different songs to help demonstrate our understanding of tempo.

One of these songs is the hand clapping song "Miss Mary Mack."  After reading a book about the song, we learned a hand clapping pattern and performed it to a fun version that keeps getting faster and faster!  It was great fun doing our clapping patterns, moving around the room to find new partners each time and even composing our own clapping patterns to match the music!
