Meet our new Student Teacher!

Miss Baker is our student teacher and has been with us since January! She actually splits her time between Park Elementary and Georgetown Elementary. Since she is only here part time, she only works with Day 2 students, but they sure do like her! She has been introducing us to all kinds of new songs, games and activities. We have been learning about resting tones, flowing with our bodies, solfege and chord tones. She is doing a great job!

I did a fun little interview with Miss Baker today. Here are some things you might not know about her!
Where do you go to college? Michigan State! GO GREEN!

Why did you want to become a music teacher? Music is a big part of my life. I had great music teachers growing up and they were all great role models to me. I also love helping kids so it was a great thing to go into!

What instruments do you play? My main instrument is my voice. Even my license plate has the Michigan State S symbol on it followed by PRNO. SPRNO = soprano! I also played piano from 1st grade until high school. I played a couple of years of guitar in high school too. An interesting instrument I play is the Zimbabwian mbira which is a thumb piano. I learned to play it in a college class and fell in love with it. That same class taught me how to dance and play shekeres (African gourds covered in beads) in the Zimbabwe tradition.
What is something interesting about yourself? I'm allergic to chocolate!
