Clarinetist from Symphony comes for a visit!

Fourth graders were treated to a special presentation from Mrs. Hovnanian who is a clarinet player for the West Michigan symphony.

Mrs. "H" came this morning and met with all three fourth grades.  She began by playing an EXTREMELY fast, extremely exciting Spanish piece.  There were many wide eyes and gaping jaws as we watched her fingers fly over her instrument!  She also played some familiar movie themes like "Harry Potter", "Lord of the Rings" and "Indiana Jones."  The students were very excited to hear these well-known tunes on the clarinet.

Students also learned about the symphony orchestra, the range of notes on the clarinet, how the clarinet uses reeds to make its sound, how the keys work on the clarinet, and we even reviewed all the instrument families.

It was a very fun, fact-filled morning!  We will be welcoming Mrs. H back at the end of April as she helps prepare us for our LINK UP concert.  Hopefully we will be able to play our recorders along with her clarinet part for some of our concert songs!  How exciting!
