If you ask your child "What is STOMP?" They probably will start hitting rhythms on the nearest piece of furniture or object that can make a sound.
One of my favorite groups is a percussionist group called STOMP. They are a unique musical theatre of choreographed percussion, movement and physical comedy. They create amazing rhythmic pieces using non-traditional percussion. Instead of snare drums and maracas, you will see garbage cans, brooms, basketballs and oil drums.... perhaps pieces of car parts or buckets will take the place of timpani drums and tambourines. They are amazing and make you want to keep a beat on anything and everything!
Each year when I talk about percussion to my students, we watch parts of a performance by STOMP. Percussion is any instrument that can be hit, scraped and shaken. Its great for the kids to see non-conventional instruments being played. Third graders even create their own percussion pieces in class after watching STOMP.
The great news? STOMP is coming live to Grand Rapids!!!
This is an amazing chance to experience this group live with your child!
They will be at Devos Hall May 20-22.
Go get in on the fun!
